DUBAI - New mid-range and high-end handsets featuring large, colourful displays and advanced functionality are launched in Madrid: meet the Siemens CF62 and CX65.
Siemens Mobile today unveiled two new additions to its line-up of mobile phones, the CF62 and CX65 - respectively mid-range and high-end handsets. The former is a clamshell design with dual displays and a distinctive, new antenna loop, while the latter is of a more traditional candybar design that appears to have sprung from the team behind the S55 model.
A compact clamshell phone, the CF62 offers an unusual loop antenna design and comes in either 'cool grey' or 'cool cashmere' - both weighing in at a light 85 g and measuring. Despite a somewhat understated look, the CF62 boasts a range of features, of which its dual display setup is one of the most obvious: the external display is monochrome, while the internal 16-bit CSTN display offers up to 65,536 colours.
The CF62 also supports Siemens' attachable QuickPic camera with flash, which ties in with its ability to send and receive SMS and MMS messages. A tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz handset, the CF52 also supports GPRS, as well as polyphonic ringtones, J2ME and WAP. As with other Siemens models, this handset can be customized with sounds, images and applications available from Siemens' own Internet services.
According to Siemens, the CF62 offers up to five hours of talk time and up to 220 hours of standby time, which is only slightly less than the respective five and 250 hours of the high-end handset introduced today, the CX65.
A more traditional candybar design, the CX65 also offers tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz connectivity, along with a 16-bit display offering the same colour range as that of the CF62. This model, however, boasts an integrated digital camera with VGA resolution, more easily facilitating use of its MMS capabilities. For this model, an attachable flash plug-in is available to generate better results under poor lighting conditions, also offering red-eye reduction.
Other similarities with the CF62 include support for GPRS, J2ME and polyphonic ringtones, while the CX65 also offers an e-mail client, a joystick for improved gaming experiences and a whopping 11 MB of dynamic memory shared between the various applications of the handset.
The CF62 will be available in Europe from April 2004 and in Asia Pacific and North America from the second quarter 2004, with prices to be announced locally. The CX65, on its side, will be sold in Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America from the second quarter of 2004 - also this with pricing to be announced locally.
